As the only free VPN out there that offers an unlimited data allowance, Proton VPN Free is tough to beat. The free version provides the same great privacy features as the paid version, but there are some restrictions. Most notable is the fact that there are only 3 server locations, so you won’t be able to access restricted streaming content from across the globe. You can only use it with one device at a time, too.

Windscribe Free

Not quite reaching the speeds of some of the other options, the paid version of Windscribe fell slightly short of our Best Paid VPN list. However, the company offers an excellent free version of its VPN. There’s no unlimited data allowance here, but Windscribe does provide a generous 10GB per month. The app is compatible with tons of platforms including Amazon Fire and Kodi TV boxes, which is great.

Hotspot Shield Free

Number of servers: 1+ in 1 country

Maximum devices supported: 5

With the paid version being ranked so highly in our Best Paid VPN list, it’s no surprise that Hotspot Shield also offers a great free version. Users have access to a daily data allowance of 500MB and can use it on up to 5 devices simultaneously. Although the free version’s speeds don’t quite match that of the paid version, it’s still a great choice!
